Being Part Of The Big Bethany Clean-Up

Bethany needs a big clean-up. Quite a number of us are going to be dressed in T-shirt and shorts this Saturday morning to help out in tidying up our beloved Church building. We are going to clean every floor of the basement carpark. We are going to make sure every space in our Church is cleaned and things are neatly packed. When people come to our Church this Sunday, they will see a Church that is spick and span. Obviously, we need all the manpower we can get. Let’s be encouraged to take this opportunity to be part of this periodic and necessary affair… the “Big Bethany Clean-Up”.

Having The Attitude Of A Servant

As we seek to serve the Lord in this way, it is always good to have a servant’s attitude. We should always be impacted by the way Paul and Timothy served.

“Paul and Timothy, bondservants of Jesus Christ”
Philippians 1:1

In Paul’s greeting to the Philippian Church, he addressed himself and Timothy as bondservants of the Lord Jesus. The word “bondservants” in the Greek means slaves. The idea of a slave is to be solely submitted to another. In this case, Paul and Timothy saw themselves as slaves of the Lord Jesus. They saw Him as their Master and Lord. As we seek to serve, we must have the humble attitude of a servant. Let’s always have this disposition as we serve together.

Having A Deep Sense Of Oneness

“Paul and Timothy, bondservants of Jesus Christ”
Philippians 1:1

The use of “and” emphasises the association between Paul and Timothy. Paul was a spiritual father to Timothy. Timothy had learnt to listen and learn from Paul. Whenever they served, they did it with a great sense of oneness. There was this solidarity of spirit in all that they did. Paul wrote of how Timothy was like-minded.

“For I have no one like-minded, who will sincerely care for your state.”
Philippians 2:20

The idea of being “like-minded” is to have the same soul. There was sameness of spirit and mind. When we seek to serve the Lord, it is imperative that there be teamwork and unity in our endeavours. We must learn to serve together with the sameness of spirit.

Pleasing The Lord By Doing A Good Job In Our Clean Up

Ultimately, as we seek to serve the Lord, our aim is to please Him. We must seek to do our very best for Him. If we truly see ourselves as servants of the Lord Jesus, then naturally, we will seek to please our Lord and our Master in all that we do. Let’s be challenged do a great job as we serve at the big Bethany clean-up. Let’s put our whole heart into it. We are to going to begin at 9am on Saturday, 26th November 2005. Let’s come together and do our best to make our Bethany a clean and beautiful Church. May we have a good time serving the Lord together. See you there!
