A Prayer For God To Teach

What do we do when we are grappling with challenging situations in life? Faith should cause to seek the Lord and to ask Him to teach and guide us. The Psalmist in the text of Psalm 25was going through a time when he was struggling with the pain of being afflicted. It was a time when his enemies seemed to have an upper hand. It was also during this time that David was grappling with the sins of his life… even the sins of his youth. It was in the midst of this challenging situation that he made a prayer to God to guide and teach him.

“Show me Your ways, O Lord;
Teach me Your paths.

Lead me in Your truth and teach me,

For You are the God of my salvation;

On You I wait all the day.”

Psalm 25:4

David sought the Lord to reveal to him His ways. He asked that God teach him the paths he should take in his life. A further request was given to ultimately lead him in the truth of His ways. He was committed to waiting on the Lord for His leading. Young people, we all need the Lord to teach us and lead us in times when things seem overwhelming.

God As A Good And Upright Teacher

Will the Lord teach us when we seek Him in prayer? The answer is an absolute yes.

“Good and upright is the Lord”
Psalm 25:8

God ever desires to teach when people are willing to learn from Him. He is a God who is upright and He wants people to walk in the right way.

1. He Teaches The Sinner

“Therefore He teaches sinners in the way.”
Psalm 25:8

God is big hearted enough to even teach sinners. Out of His mercies and uprightness, He will teach sinners who would seek His leading. He will teach them the way that they should go. Young people, we may still be grappling with the sins in our lives, but let’s be comforted that we have a God who is willing to teach us.

2. He Teaches The Humble

“The humble He guides in justice,
And the humble He teaches His way.”

Psalm 25:9

The Lord will teach those who are humble. To those who are proud and rebellious, He will not teach and guide. However, to the one who humbles himself and willingly seeks the Lord to direct, He will show him His ways. The Lord will specially lead and guide him. Young people, let’s seek the Lord as our Teacher in the midst of challenging situations. In justice, He will guide the humble. Let’s always seek to be humble before this great God.
