The Lord’s Invitation To Overcome Spiritual Thirst

Spiritual dryness is something that people often struggle with. When they do not walk with God or when they are plagued by sins, the soul becomes dry. There is a soul thirst that is hard to quench. The Lord Jesus cried out on the great day of the feast, at the time of the ceremony of the water libation (a water sacrifice to God). He gave an important invitation to all.

“If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me”
John 7:37-38

The Lord Jesus offers Himself as the answer that would quench the spiritual thirst within us.

1. Coming To The Lord Jesus

If we truly want our thirst to be quenched, we are to come and follow the Lord Jesus. It is vital that we respond to the Lord Jesus in a definite way. We are to relate and draw near to Him.

2. Drinking From The Lord Jesus

Our challenge is to “drink” from this special relationship we can have with the Lord Jesus. When we truly believe in Him and we put in the effort to abide in Him, we will draw much from the Lord Jesus.

3, Continuing In Belief In The Lord Jesus

We are to also continue in our faith in the person of the Lord Jesus. Let’s seek to have a consistent cultivation of our faith in Him.

Finding Great Spiritual Lifeforce Within Us

“‘As the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive”
John 7:38-39

When we truly believe and continue to believe in the Lord Jesus, the Spirit of God will fill us.

1. According To The Scriptures

Our basis of faith is the Scriptures. In the text of Isaiah 43:20, the Lord God spoke of how He would bring about “water” in the wilderness. There would be “rivers in the desert”. He would give much “drink” to His people. The Lord Jesus based what He taught on the Scriptures.

2. According To His Powerful Life Force

The Lord Jesus spoke of how when people do continue to believe, the Spirit of God would come and fill their soul. The work of the Spirit of God would be so overwhelming and powerful that it would be like “rivers of living water” flowing out of hearts that used to be spiritually dry. Young people, let’s believe in the Lord Jesus that the Spirit may bring forth tremendous life from within our hearts.
