MORE ABOUT THE LORD JESUS

Are You A Skeptic?

People today are skeptical about Jesus being the Son of God. They make up their minds hastily without checking things out for themselves. This was not so for a scholar in the Bible by the name of Nathanael. He was indeed a true thinker. He would not make a full conclusion about someone until he checked things out for himself. Nathanael was initially skeptical about Philip’s claim that Jesus of Nazareth was the Messiah. It was hard for him to believe this because Nazareth was known to be a place where people were very rough and tough. However, he was encouraged by Philip to “come and see” things for himself. As an astute thinker, he did.

Jesus Revealing Glimpses Of Himself

“Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, ‘Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!'”
John 1:47

When the Lord Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, He was able to reveal glimpses of his identity even before meeting him. He spoke of how he was an Israelite who did not think deceitfully. He was an honest and straightforward person. He did not do things in pretense. Nathanael was amazed that the Lord Jesus knew him so intimately. He asked Him when He knew him for who he was. The Lord Jesus spoke of how even before Philip called him, when he was under a fig tree, most probably thinking and praying, He already knew him. People then who sat under a fig tree were thinkers. No one was with Nathanael at that time and yet the Lord knew vividly what he was doing. The only conclusion that he could make was that He must have been there too.

Recognizing And Believing In Jesus As The Son Of God

“Nathanael answered and said to Him, ‘Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!'”
John 1:49

Nathanael was able to recognize Jesus as the Son of God. Because of what the Lord Jesus said to Him, he was able to believe in Him as the king of Israel. He was the Messiah that the Scriptures had foretold about. He believed in the words of Jesus. Young people, do you also truly recognize and believe in Jesus as the Son of God?

The Revelation Of Greater Things

“‘You will see greater things than these.’ And He said to him, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.'”
John 1:50-51

Those with eyes of faith will be rewarded with greater glimpses of the Lord Jesus. They will be given more glimpses of heaven’s glory. One aspect of discipleship is the path of discovering who the Lord Jesus is. When we seek Him and find out more about Him, He will show greater things about Himself. Those with faith will see greater things of the Lord. May it be our joy to discover more about our Lord Jesus.
