The Example Of David In Proclaiming His Faith

Did you have an opportunity to share your faith with someone during CNY? It is always good to grab every chance we have. This Saturday’s CNY special will be another occasion for all of us to bear witness for Him. King David sought to proclaim his faith in God as he stood before his people.

“I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness
In the great assembly”

Psalm 40:9

The Psalmist did not just plan to speak about sharing his faith. He actually got down to doing it. David declared that he did proclaim the Lord’s righteousness in the great assembly. As a king, he was able to speak before thousands of his subjects and he did not hold back on giving glory to the Lord God. He did not hide the Lord’s wonderful attributes from the people. What were the things that stirred David to proclaim about the Lord?

1. Proclaiming From A Heart That Desires To Share Good News

“I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness
In the great assembly;

Indeed, I do not restrain my lips,

O Lord, You Yourself know”

Psalm 40:9

The discovery of Lord’s righteousness, faithfulness and salvation was good news to David. These were things that he could not keep quiet about. When we have received good news, we cannot help but share it with others. The Lord knows that David did not restrain himself from speaking of Him. We can almost sense David’s heart bursting with joy because he shared about God to his people.

2. Proclaiming From A Renewed Faith In The Lord

“Blessed is the man who makes the Lord His trust”
Psalm 40:4

David had just experienced a renewed faith and trust in the Lord. The Lord had brought him out a “horrible pit” and had “set him upon a rock”. He had put a new song in his mouth (Psalm 40:3). David could see the Lord’s blessing on those who trust in Him. These last two months, we have been hearing about trusting in the Lord in these troubled times. I hope your faith and trust in the Lord has been renewed. Let’s share this renewed trust in God with others that may come our way.

3. Proclaiming From The Fullness Of God In Our Hearts And Minds

“Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works
Which you have done;

And your thoughts toward us

Cannot be recounted to You in order”

Psalm 40:5

David reflected much on the wonderful works of God. Behind the works of the Lord are His thoughts; His plans, His purposes and His truths. The Psalmist reflected on the numerous works of God that he just could not count them. He proclaimed about the Lord from the fullness of his heart and mind as He reflected on His greatness. Let’s also fill our heart with the great works of God.

4. Proclaiming From A Life Of Joy In Doing His Will

“I delight to do Your will, O my God,
And your law is within my heart.”

Psalm 40:8

One of the best ways to speak of the Lord to people is to share it from our life. David sought to share his faith from a life that sought to fulfil God’s will. He sought to delight to do His will. Of course, he still struggled with sin (Psalm 40:12). Yet, he determined to keep the laws of God and to do them with great joy. Let’s also learn to delight in doing the will of God as we seek to bear witness for Him.
