The Limitation Of Relying On Our Own Human Strength

Human strength is often limited. When preparing for exams and working hard in this stressful world, weariness and jadedness may often set in when we depend on our own innate strength. The prophet Isaiah wrote of how the people of Israel would be going through a time of bondage and exile in Babylon. During this time of difficulty, the conditions were such that even the young and strong men would faint and falter.

“Even youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall.”

Isaiah 40:30

There are limits to what human strength can do. However, there are no limits to what God’s power can do. As we struggle with weariness from time to time, let’s learn to fully rely on the Lord’s strength and not our own.

Learning To Rely On The Lord’s Power

“But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength”

Isaiah 40:31

“He calls them all by name,
By the greatness of His might
And the strength of His power”

Isaiah 40:26

The phrase “wait on the Lord” means “to trust fully and to wait” on the Lord to strengthen us. When we wait on Him in prayer, there will come a special provision of energy that will enable us to attempt and do much. What kind of power does the Lord provide for us? It is a power that is truly great. God created all the stars in the heavens. He calls them all by name. Through creation, we can recognise the strength of His might. This same greatness of power is also made available to us. When we re-discover God, be enlightened to the truths of His word and learn to wait on Him, He who created the heavens and the earth will renew our strength.

Unlimited Power And Energy

“They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”

Isaiah 40:31

There will be unlimited power and energy available to us. We will be like a great eagle mounting up with majestic spread-out wings and soaring into the sky.
There will be divine strength from God specially made accessible to us. Isaiah also saw how the people who wait on the Lord will have tremendous spiritual and physical stamina. They will “run” and be not weary. They will also walk and not faint. The older ones may not be able to run but they can still walk and not be weary. They will be able to persevere despite how challenging life may be. Young people, let’s learn to tap into this unlimited power and energy that are made available to us by God at any time. Our part is to meditate on His word and to wait on the Lord. The Lord will bring about a special renewing of our heart and soul. Let’s be challenged to depend on this unlimited power of God.
