Are You Still A Spiritual Baby?

Can you imagine a grown up man still drinking milk from a baby bottle for all his meals? It is hard to imagine, isn’t it? And yet, such a picture applies very much to many Christians today. Many continue to remain as spiritual babes.

“You need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food… for he is a babe.”
Hebrews 5:12-13

Instead of growing in much knowledge, such Christians have to relearn the basics again. They have become used to drinking spiritual milk instead of solid and deep Biblical teachings. They have to be re-taught the Christian fundamentals again. Young people, we cannot remain being spiritual babes indefinitely. We must go on to spiritual maturity.

The Challenge To Have Spiritual Maturity

How can we move on to spiritual maturity?

1. Avid Training Of Spiritual Senses

“Those who by reason of use have their senses exercised”
Hebrews 5:14

The word “exercised” in the Greek is where you get the word “gymnastics”. Spiritual senses must be trained and cultivated. When we take the time to read the word of God and listen well to it, we are training our spiritual senses to be more refined.

2. Finding Ability To Take “Solid Food”

“But solid food belongs to those who are of full age”
Hebrews 5:14

Understanding deep spiritual truth is something that we must get used to. It does not come about if we do not make the effort. It is something that we must work at constantly. After much training, we will find the ability to take more solid spiritual food. Let’s seek to move on to imbibing spiritual meat rather than milk.

3. Ascertaining Spiritual Discernment

“To discern both good and evil.”
Hebrews 5:14

When we train our spiritual senses, we will be able to have greater spiritual discernment. We will be able to distinguish between that which is good and evil. We will be able to make better and sound judgments. Let’s seek to have this discernment.

BOTTOM LINE: “We are what we eat spiritually.”
