GETTING DOWN TO LOVING ONE ANOTHER

Going Beyond Mere Head Knowledge

Love cannot be fathomed only with the mind. It must be cultivated and practiced in all that we do. It must be expressed evidently and distinctly in our lives. A person who says that he loves his brother and does nothing for him has a love that is outrightly fallacious. Young people, we must seek to practice true Christian love in our lives.

True Expressions Of Love

How can we express true love to people?

1. Learning To Be Sacrificial In The Way We Love

“By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”
1 John 3:16

The Lord Jesus’ sacrificial and matchless love is seen in how He gave His life for us. We have been given this awesome privilege of being called the sons of God. This great and selfless love that Jesus has shown to us should impact our lives in a definite and profound way. We too ought to emulate this kind of sacrificial love for others. We should feel for others and go the extra mile for them even if it means sacrificing much.

2. Learning To Be Sensitive To The Needs Of Others

“But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?”
1 John 3:17

If we see someone who is in need and we purposely ignore him, we should question whether we really understand the love of God in our lives. If God’s love is deeply appreciated, when we see needs, our natural reaction would be to try to help out. His love would compel us to use what we have to help those in dire straits.

3. Learning To Be Practical In The Way We Love

“My little children, let us not love in word or tongue, but in deed and in truth.”
1 John 3:18

Making statements of love is easy. It is harder to actually love in deed and in truth. We need to be practical in the way we love. Love must always lead us to action. We must express love by performing actual kind deeds for others. Our acts of love must also be circumscribed by the truth of God’s word. Our Burmese brethren and Indian brethren continue to need our support. They are less fortunate than us. Let’s continue to be concerned for them and seek to meet their needs. Let’s learn to love in practical ways.
