Loving The Lord The Way We Should

Loving God is different from loving our parents, friends or pets. It is a special kind of love that comes from our heart and soul. Moses taught the Israelites how to love God in a deep and committed manner.

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”
Deuteronomy 6:5

What a great challenge! We are to love the Lord with everything that we have. David also expressed a great determination to love the Lord deeply.

“I will love You, O Lord, my strength.”
Psalm 18:1

Young people, do we have such devotion for the Lord? Do we love the Lord with all our heart, soul and strength? We should. Let’s determine to love the Lord the way we should.

Reflecting On How God Has Loved Us

“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my strength …
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

Psalm 18:2

David took time to reflect on how the Lord was there for him in different ways. He went through many tough moments, especially during the times when King Saul wanted to kill him. He was hunted like an animal. However, the Lord specially protected him. The Lord was a mighty fortress and shield to him. He gave both spiritual and physical strength to him when he needed them most. He was his deliverer and salvation. All these and more showed how much the Lord loved him. It was wonderful to see how one relationship with God met all his needs. The Lord has also seen us through much. He has been our strength and fortress too. It would be good for us to take some time to reflect on and to appreciate how the Lord has been there for us. He has showered his love on us.

Responding With A Deeper Love For God

“In whom I will trust …
I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised”

Psalm 18:2-3

When we have experienced great love from God, we should respond appropriately. David did not just declare that he loved the Lord. He determined within his heart to trust the Lord more. If God was able to relate to him in many wonderful ways, so much more should he have a greater trust in Him. He also determined to call upon the Lord in prayer and in worship on a consistent basis. Prayer and praise should be part and parcel of our life. Let’s learn to cultivate our love for the Lord even more. Let’s learn to respond with a deeper love for Him. The Lord is pleased when we relate to Him with greater trust and intimacy.
