BLESSED IS THE MAN WHO TRUSTS IN THE LORD

Useless Trust In Man

Very often, man tends to trust in his own kind rather than in God. The people of Israel during the times of Jeremiah did not walk with God. They went after idols and trusted in the armies of other nations to fight their wars rather than in God’s help and deliverance. When man trusts solely in man, the conclusion would be one of disaster and failure.

“Cursed is the man who trusts in man,
And makes flesh his strength,

Whose heart departs from the Lord.

For he shall be like a shrub in the desert,

And shall not see when good comes,

But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness”

Jeremiah 17:5-6

The Lord warned of how those who trust in man would be “cursed”. They would be likened to a small shrub in the desert. They will not see the good that the Lord will bring on those who feared Him. The Lord will ensure that these people would dwell in perpetual desolation. There will be no blessing from Him.

The Lord’s Blessing On Those Who Trust In Him

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
And whose hope is the Lord.

For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,

Which spreads out its roots by the river,

And will not fear when heat comes;

But its leaf will be green,

And will not be anxious in the year of drought,

Nor will cease from yielding fruit.”

Jeremiah 17:7-8

On the other hand, those who place their trust in the Lord will be richly blessed. Blessed is the person whose hope is found in the Lord God almighty.

  1. Instead of being a shrub, he will be like a tree.
  2. Instead of living in a parched land, he will be planted by the river.
  3. Instead of having superficial roots, he will have deep roots in the soil.
  4. Instead of faltering the midst of trials, he will be strong.
  5. Instead of being anxious, he will be steadfast
  6. Instead of being barren, he will be fruitful.

Young people, the Lord desires to bless our lives richly. We can grow into a strong tree that will stand the test of time and life. Let’s seek to trust in the person of the Lord and His word. Let’s place our fullness of hope in Him and He will not fail us. He will shower us with great blessings. Let’s always seek to trust in the Lord with all our heart. The Lord will prosper us in all that we do.
