Offering Joyous Praise To God For What The Lord Jesus Has Done

This Sunday, we will be celebrating Palm Sunday. What is Palm Sunday? It is the day when we remember how the Lord Jesus triumphantly entered Jerusalem as the King of Israel. This day should be a time of rejoicing and praising God.

“The whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen”
Luke 19:37

When our Lord Jesus made His way towards the gates of Jerusalem, it must have been truly amazing to see a whole multitude of His disciples in unity rejoicing in Him and praising Him. They had earlier rejoiced over all the glorious things that Jesus had done (Luke 13:17). There was this sense of unity in praising God with a loud voice. The disciples of Jesus had seen great and mighty things done by the Lord Jesus. They were now rejoicing together and giving praise to God for the Lord Jesus. Let’s also come together and offer joyous praise to God for all that the Lord has done for us.

Giving The Highest Glory To Our King

“‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’
Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

Luke 19:38

The word “blessed” in the Greek means “to celebrate with praises”. The disciples celebrated with great praise to the Lord Jesus as their King. They recognised Him as One who comes in the power of the name of the Lord. They saw His miracles and they recognised Him as from the Lord God. They hailed Him as One who would come and save them. They took the text ofPsalm 118:26 as their basis for giving praise to Him. He was the One who would come and save them. He would bring about light and salvation to the people. The disciples gave the highest praise to God. “Glory to God in the highest” was what the angels sang when the Lord Jesus was born on this earth (Luke 2:14). The disciples of Jesus had also come to learn to do this. Let’s also give the highest praise to the Lord as we worship Him this Sunday.

Let Nothing Stop Us From Praising The Lord As King

“And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd, ‘Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.’ But He answered and said to them, ‘I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.'”
Luke 19:39-40

There were some who did not rejoice and praise our Lord Jesus as His disciples did. The Pharisees regarded Jesus only as a teacher. They wanted Him to rebuke His disciples and to stop them from praising Him. The Lord Jesus spoke of how even if His disciples were to keep quiet, inanimate objects like stones on the floor would rise up and give praise. Because the Lord is King over all things, there is no stopping anyone or anything from giving praise that is due to our Saviour. Young people, let’s not allow anyone or anything stop us from praising our Lord too. This Sunday is also baptismal Sunday. It is a joy to see some of our young people seeking to be baptised and being re-affirmed in their faith. Let’s rejoice in seeing the Lord’s work in their lives. Let’s come together and give praise to the Lord our King for blessing the lives of these young people with faith and that they can now seek to take their place in Bethany. Let’s never cease in giving praise to our Lord and King.
