The Perfect Example Of The Lord Jesus In Doing God’s Will

We all know that finding consistency in doing the will of God is not an easy endeavour. As much as we desire to do it, our flesh will often fail us and we sometimes become discouraged over this. It is important for us to strengthen our resolve and commitment to doing solely what pleases God. What better way to achieve this than to look at the perfect example of our precious Lord Jesus. He understood that His calling in life and ministry was to know and fulfil the will of God. In the text of Psalm 40:6, this was a prophetic word concerning Him presenting Himself to do the will of God

“My ears You have opened …
Then I said, ‘Behold I come;
In the scroll of the book it is written of me.
I delight to do Your will, O my God,
And Your law is within my heart.'”

Psalm 40:6-8

As the Lord Jesus sought God each morning, He would open His ear to understanding new truths (Isaiah 50:4-5). It is the Lord God who would reveal His will to Him from the Scriptures. He would be determined to fulfil it. How would He do this?

  1. Learn To Love Doing His Will

His dedication to doing the will of God would stem from a continuous delight in doing so. He knew that it would please God when He did things according to His plans and commandments. He learnt to obey the will of God even though it would be most difficult for Him. He found delight in honouring the Lord, relying on Him and in doing His will so as to please Him.

  1. Learn To Hide God’s Word In Our Heart

The Lord Jesus would also do the will of God through hiding His word in His heart. Memorizing the word of God and placing them within Himself would give Him the spiritual strength to do His will. The Lord Jesus sought to write God’s word upon His heart. Let’s also seek to do the same.

Great Commitment To Fulfil The Will Of God

1. Personal Motto Of Life

“Therefore, when He came into the world, He said”
Hebrews 10:5

When the Lord Jesus came into this world, He continuously spoke of doing His will. In the text of John 4:34, He spoke of how His food was to do the will of Him who sent Him and to finish His work. In the text of John 5:30, He spoke of how He could do nothing of Himself. He did not come to seek His own will but the will of the Father who sent Him. The Lord Jesus made pointed reference to doing God’s will. This was His motto for His life. Let’s also make doing God’s will our motto for life.

2. Performing Fully The Will Of God

“Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come …
To do Your will, O God.'”

Hebrews 10:7

Whatever the Lord Jesus said He would do, with great grace and strength from the Lord God, He fully fulfilled it. The Lord completely performed the will of God. He committed His whole life to pleasing His Father. Young people, let’s also be committed to doing the will of God. Let’s not just talk about our calling. Let’s fulfil our calling according to the will of God. Let’s find greater commitment to knowing, doing and fulfilling it.
