Facing The Temptations Of The Evil One

In our fight against the evil one, it is important that we build up our faith. When our faith is not steadfast and strong, the devil could hurt us.

“Lest by some means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor might be in vain.”
1 Thessalonians 3:5

The tempter will use tribulations to shake our faith.

“That no one should be shaken by these afflictions”
1 Thessalonians 3:3

One of the problems that could seriously affect our faith is afflictions. Paul was deeply concerned that the work done to help the Thessalonian church grow could end in vain due to the severe testing of the evil one. The tempter will find ways and means to tempt us and affect our faith. He will endeavour to hinder us. Our challenge is to cultivate our faith till it is strong enough to face any temptation.

Avenues To Cultivating A Strong Faith

1. Through The Help Of God’s Servants

“And sent Timothy, our brother and minister of God… to establish you and encourage you concerning your faith”
1 Thessalonians 3:2

One of the ways by which we can cultivate our faith is through the work that God’s servants can do in our lives. Timothy was sent by Paul to help the Thessalonian Church to cultivate their faith further. The word “establish” means to help a person to be resolute in a certain direction. Timothy was meant to help the Thessalonians strengthen their faith that they may stand firm in it. When we go through times of difficulties, we need to be encouraged. We need to be comforted. The Lord’s servants are meant to be there for us and to help establish our faith. We need to learn to relate to God’s servants a lot more.

2. Through Much Praying

“Night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face and perfect what is lacking in your faith?”
1 Thessalonians 3:10

Night and day, Paul was praying for the Thessalonian Christians. He was concerned about the lack in their faith. He spared no effort in praying for them. It is the Lord who can help us grow in our faith in God and love for people. It is the Lord who can help us to be established in blamelessness. Let’s seek to ask people to pray for the growth of our faith. Prayer makes a big difference.

3. Through The Practice Of Our Faith

“If you stand fast in the Lord.”
1 Thessalonians 3:8

God’s servants can do their part in helping us grow. But we have to do our part in exercising faith. We have to respond in standing fast. The evil one can hurl all kinds of temptations at us. Afflictions may be allowed to come upon our lives. But we need not be moved by them. We will take up our shield of faith and stand fast. Let’s be challenged to cultivate a strong faith.
