You Have Ordained Strength

Nothing in this world was created by chance. There is great wisdom in the design behind everything we see in this world. God with profound understanding created the universe with tremendous splendour and glory. David could not but give great praise to Him and His excellent name (Psalm 8:1). It is also with great wisdom that He created man in His own image.

Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants, you have ordained strength…”   Psalm 8:2

There is great depth in God’s design of mankind. He created man not only to have the capability to be righteous. He also created man with the potential to be strong. When God creates a baby, therein within him is not just the ability to cry with strength but also when fully grown, he will also have the vigour to achieve things. Because of this, he can be strong enough to overcome challenges and to be established in life. Such is the potential of strength that God created us to have.

DAVID – FROM INSIGNIFICANT BIRTH TO COURAGEOUS SHEPHERD

If there was someone who had an insignificant birth, it would be David. He was the 8th son in the family of Jesse (1 Sam 16:10). Because he was the youngest, as he grew up, he was pretty much left on his own. He was not even considered by his father when the prophet Samuel came to Jesse’s house to anoint a King. Despite being looked down upon, he was a young man of strength. He was not afraid to be alone in the field with his sheep. When the lion or bear came to take one of the lambs, he fearlessly went after the ferocious predator and delivered the lamb  (1 Sam. 17:34-35). In addition, when the lion or bear rose against him, he courageously caught the wild animal by its beard, struck and killed it. This is truly amazing!   Such strength and courage! Because his faith was in the Lord, He delivered him from these apex predators.

POTENTIAL TO ACTUAL

Potential of strength remains potential unless it becomes actual. In order for strength to be actual, we need to pray for the Lord’s special power to be applied in our life. Strength is given in answer to prayer. As we go back to school next week, let’s pray for the Lord’s grace and power to enable us to be strong even as we face whatever challenges ahead. We may not be facing a lion or a bear. Nevertheless, let’s learn to exercise faith in God and pray for strength in the face of difficulties whether in school or at home. He will enable us to face our challenges fearlessly.
