FINDING JOY IN THE WORD OF GOD
What brings the greatest joy to your heart? For some, drinking bubble tea brings a lot of gladness to the heart. For others, it is being with friends. Personally, knowing the word of God is what brings the most delight to my soul. The word of God was something that King David had come to deeply appreciate and had found great joy in.
The statutes of the Lord are right rejoicing the heart…” Psalm 19:8
1. Appreciating an aspect of the word of God
The statutes of the Lord were laws enacted by God to establish certain things. They are like by-laws. David wrote of how the statutes are totally accurate. They are right in the sight of God and men. There are no errors in them and are totally reliable.
2. Finding joy in His word that fills the heart
Because the Scriptures are totally right and reliable, they bring forth a special sense of joy to the heart. The word of God is a never-ending source of joy. This joy that we find in His word can be sustained within the heart throughout the years, even when we face challenging situations. Furthermore, it can bring about a fullness of joy as we learn to abide in it.
The writer of Psalm 119 had testified of how he had rejoiced in the word of God as much as in all riches (Psalm 119:14). When we take heed to His word, be cleansed from sins and walk in His ways, there will come much joy.
PERSONAL REFLECTIONS
There is nothing quite like reading the Scriptures and discovering new truths from it. Being enlightened to the truth of His word is what brings much joy to my heart. I have been reading the Scriptures for many years now and its richness and benefits continue to bring delight to me. My prayer is that you too will discover the joy of reading, learning and practising the truths of His word.
