Love the Brotherhood

This is the theme for our coming YPG combined outing to Sentosa on 9th June 2018.   A few of us were recceing for the up-coming event and we could not help but take a few pictures along the way (Of course, we are not going to bungy jump on that day). One of the things that we are seeking to develop is a deep sense of brotherhood.   As we recced together the locations for our outing, I could not help but see how there was this special sense of oneness and joy even as we served together.   There was this sense of brotherhood.

The Apostle Peter challenged the Christians who were part of the Dispersion then to love the brotherhood.

Honour all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.” 1 Peter 2:17

The challenge to love the brotherhood was part of a series of commands with regards to how we should relate to all men. We should honour all men at all times. With regards to fellow Christians, there should be this love for the brotherhood. We who are Christians have been called out of darkness into His marvellous light. We are now part of His own special people. We are meant to see each other as brothers and sisters in the Lord. We are meant to practise this deep sense of brotherhood in the Lord.

THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF ONE WHO LOVED THE BROTHERHOOD

This was something that the Lord Jesus exemplified when He was on this earth.

For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren,…” Heb. 2:11

The Lord Jesus is not ashamed to call us “brethren”. This is indeed a privilege. The Lord Jesus is not ashamed of us. He does not look down on us. He regards us as His brethren. We are meant to be one with the Lord and with each other through His sanctification. The Lord Jesus declared the Lord God’s name to His brethren (Heb. 2:11). He was willing to die for His brethren. He understood how to practise a deep sense of love for the brotherhood. This is something we should have too. Let’s follow the Lord’s example in having a high regard for the brethren.
