I Will Awaken The Dawn

Can you guess where I took this picture? No, it was not taken at some beautiful countryside in France.   This was actually taken during a beautiful sunlit morning in Sengkang. I was on leave that morning and the sun was rising. And I went to a near-by HDB flat and took the lift up to the 18th floor to take this picture. It was quite a pleasant sight to behold.   Straightaway, Psalm 108 came to mind.

Awake, lute and harp! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples, and I will sing praises to You among the nations.” Psalm 108:2-3

David’s heart was just so filled with joy for the Lord’s blessings in his life that there was a deep desire to give praise to Him even before it was dawn.   Metaphorically, he was asking the lute and harp to awake.   There was just so much excitement in his heart that he wanted to awake the dawn with praises to the Lord. David had this special sense of love for God.   His love for the Lord caused him to desire to speak of the Lord and His mercies to people.

FOR YOUR MERCY IS GREAT ABOVE THE HEAVENS

For Your mercy is great above the heavens, and Your truth reaches to the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, and your glory above all the earth…” Psalm 108:4-5

David was very thankful for the Lord’s great mercies in his life.   It is so great that it reaches to the heavens.   Can you imagine how great God’s mercies are?   The Lord’s truth also reaches to the cloud.   The Lord had revealed many theological truths through His servants. We are meant to specially appreciate them. His mercies and His truths speak of the greatness of His glory.   Truly the Lord is to be exalted above the heavens and His glory is to be lifted above the earth. As we appreciate the Lord in a deeper way, our praise of Him should be even greater. How should we begin each morning? Our focus should be on the Lord, His great mercies and His enduring truths.   There should be a greater appreciation in our heart for what He has blessed us with.  Let’s seek to have a steadfast heart that will love the Lord always and to consistently seek to greatly exalt Him.
