Our vital need for direction

As we venture through the journey of life, we often find our way strewn with problems. Time and time again, we encounter obstacles that require us to make important choices that might have a significant impact on our lives…not only for the present but even for the rest of our lives.

For many of us, we recognise our lack of understanding and wisdom to make good and sound choices. We want to avoid the mistakes of our past lest we make those unwise choices again.

At such, we find ourselves in need of leading…to be given direction as to which path we ought to take. We are in need of guidance as to how best we should approach the problem at hand. There is no better source of direction than our wise and sovereign God.

The humble prayer for God’s leading

David recognized his need to look to God for direction. He frequently encountered enemies who were out to destroy him. David sought to humble himself in prayer to God, “Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me,” (Ps 25:4) What are some of the things that we should pray for as we learn from the example of David?

1. “Show me Your ways”

Our plea is for the Lord to reveal His ways to us that we would be able to walk in those ways.

2. “Teach me Your paths”

As we address our problems, we can look to God to teach us concerning the paths that He would want us to follow.

3. “Lead me in Your truth and teach me”

The Lord will always lead us in truth, that we should understand them and walk in them.

Let us be challenged to pray for the Lord’s direction and to have the faith to trust in His leading.

The path of deliverance

“For You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day.” (Ps 25:5)

The word “salvation” in the Old Testament is often a reference to the deliverance of the Lord. Our God is the God of our salvation…of our deliverance. He would lead us onto the path that will bring about deliverance for us.

Our part is to learn to wait upon the Lord.  We should never take matters into our own hands where we may end up choosing the wrong path. Let us be challenged to wait upon the Lord to show us the way in dealing with our problems.

Let us be challenged to always look to God for His direction and deliverance as we face the obstacles of life.
