The focus of Moses’ final words

When Moses gave his final words of blessing to Israel, not only did he give individual blessings to all the 12 tribes of Israel, he also gave a final focus for all of them as they entered into the Promised Land. There were indeed many challenges and battles to be fought. Yet they were not going to face these overwhelming odds alone. Moses’ focus was really on the Lord God…the God of Israel.

What about us? When we are about to face up to different challenges at work or at home, do we set our focus on the Lord? May we seek to look to the Lord who is our one and only God.

Focusing on the one and only God

“There is no one like the God of Jeshurun,” (Deut 33:26)

Moses declared that there is no one like God. He is indeed unparalleled in so many ways. In terms of character and power, there is no man or “god” that comes close to who God is. He is matchless…He is the almighty God.

Yet He is the God of Jeshurun, a special term of endearment for Israel. He is their God and will always see them as His special people. We thank God for being our God too and that we are His people.

Seeking the heavenly help of God

“Who rides the heavens to help you, and in His excellency on the clouds.” (Deut 33:26)

Israel would be able to seek the Lord for His help. The Lord is described by Moses like a warrior riding through the heavens in order to come to give His help. He will come to our aid when it is needed. He would be seen in His excellency…in His glory and majesty riding the clouds to bring us help. What a glorious picture of our Lord coming to give us help. Let’s be challenged to seek the Lord’s help in our time of need.

Depending on eternal God as our protection

“The eternal God is your refuge,” (Deut 33:27)

In the midst of challenges and overwhelming circumstances, it is wonderful to know that we can depend on our eternal God to be our refuge. We can find security and protection in Him. This is our eternal God who will never fail nor forsake us. He will always provide for us protection from the challenges that we will have to face in life. Let’s be challenged to rely on our eternal God for His protection

Assured of the Lord’s upholding arms

“And underneath are the everlasting arms;” (Deut 33:27)

No matter how tough things may be, we have the everlasting arms of God to support us. His arms will be underneath us, to carry us through the problems of life. This was the assurance that Moses gave to Joshua and the people of Israel as they faced the reality of fighting the nations of Canaan. God will be their help and their protector. Let’s be challenged to focus on our God who will be our help and will uphold us through the challenges of life.
