God’s blessing to the righteous

As we diligently seek to pursue a life of righteousness, the Lord will bless us accordingly. King Solomon affirmed this in the Book of Proverbs.

  1. The Lord will specially place His blessings on the righteous (Proverbs 10:6).
  2. The Lord will deliver the righteous from trouble (Proverbs 11:8).
  3. The Lord will give His favour on those who are good and righteous (Proverbs 12:2).

We thank God for the many blessings that He has given to us. Our lives are greatly enriched through these blessings. Let us rejoice in all that God has blessed us with.

Being a blessing as the righteous

As we appreciate all that we have been specially blessed with, our appropriate response is to be a blessing to others. In living out our righteousness, we can significantly impact others.

1. A blessing to our family

a. The house of the righteous will stand (Proverbs 12:7).
i. When a man chooses righteousness as a way of life for his family, the Lord will bless and build it into the house of the righteous.
ii. No matter what is hurled against it, it will stand and not falter.
b. A righteous son (and daughter) brings joy to the father (and mother) (Proverbs 10:1).
i. As righteous and wise sons and daughters, we can live well and make good decisions.
ii. This will bring delight and joy to our fathers and mothers.
c. A righteous wife would be the crown of her husband (Proverbs 12:4).
i. A righteous and wise wife is an excellent wife.
ii. She will be the crown of glory to the husband.
d. The righteous would also bless the family pet by regarding its life well (Proverbs 12:10).

Through our righteousness, we can make a difference to our family members.

2. A blessing to our city (society)

“When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices;” (Proverbs 11:10)
“By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted,” (Proverbs 11:11)

a. The righteous affect their city.
b. When the righteous is blessed, their society is also blessed.
c. In the context of Singapore, we thank God for giving us good leaders over the years. The Lord has blessed and exalted our country to what it is today.
d. As the righteous, whether we are working for the government or are in the private sector, how we live and work can affect our city. Our righteousness makes a difference to our society.

3. A blessing to those in need

“There is one who scatters, yet increases more;” (Proverbs 11:24)
“The generous soul will be made rich,” (Proverbs 11:25)

a. As we are blessed, let us lovingly consider those who are in great need.
b. Let us respond with a generous soul and seek to scatter what we have.
c. It is learning to give to the poor and those in dire straits…whether locally or overseas. Bethany has sought to practise righteousness by giving to the needs of our brethren in India, Myanmar and Kenya. In Kenya, we are currently supporting a church building project and also providing essential food to our brethren as they struggle through a famine.
d. As we learn to give and be a blessing to others, we are further blessed richly.

In view of how much the Lord has blessed us, let us be challenged to be a blessing to others.
