Rich In Faith

The blessing of being rich in faith

As believers, we know that God has given us His blessings. But do we fully understand how spiritually rich we can be? This was a concern that the Apostle James had as he wrote to his Jewish brethren, “Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?” (James 2:5) How should we understand this privilege of being rich in faith?

God’s plan of choosing the poor

  1. James was able to understand God’s divine plan.
  2. God determined and chose the poor to be rich in faith.
  3. The poor is a reference to those who are facing poverty in life.
  4. The Jewish brethren were scattered, displaced and poor.
  5. This was indeed a special privilege given to them.

Rich in faith

  1. All who have faith may indeed be described as “rich”.
  2. We are all heirs of the kingdom of the Lord.
  3. There are many riches to appreciate in being part of the kingdom.
  4. But not all know how to use their spiritual inheritance meaningfully.

Spiritual blessings in the heavenly places

  1. The Apostle Paul wrote that God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:3).
  2. This is considered a “done deal”…something that has already been given to us.
  3. But these blessings remain “in the heavenly places” for many.
    1. They are stored in the heavenly places.
    2. They continue to remain there.
  4. The fullness of the Lord’s blessings has not been realised by many.
    1. We have experienced salvation.
    2. We have gained some blessings.
    3. But we have not realised the fullness of the Lord’s blessings yet.

The promise of the Lord’s blessing

1. Much has been promised to those who love Him (James 2:5)

This love is not a matter of words only. It is a love for the Lord seen in life and ministry.

Only then will God’s blessing be realised.

2. Access to God (Romans 5:1–2)

Through faith and justification, we have been granted access to God. But few make use of this access to God. By faith, we ought to seek access to God and be blessed by His grace.

3. Abide in the Lord Jesus (John 15:4)

Fruitfulness comes by abiding in the Lord and His Word. But few are able to display these fruits. Many have not sought to abide in the Lord as we ought to. Not many are rich in faith, as numerous promises remain unfulfilled. Let us not be drawn and distracted by the riches of this world. Let us appreciate the privilege of God choosing us to be rich in faith. Let us cultivate a loving and close relationship with God so that we may be richly blessed.
