Goals for family camp

It is only slightly more than a week before we commence Bethany’s Family Camp. It is with great excitement that we anticipate the whole church coming together to study the Lord’s Word and to have a wonderful time of fellowship.

We had a taste of what we will be studying on the theme of prayer at last Saturday’s pre-camp special. Pastor Charles spoke of the challenge that Jesus gave to His disciples, “Men always ought to pray and not lose heart.” (Luke 18:1)

The problem of prayerlessness is something that continues to persist today. It is crucial that we seek to address this problem in our lives too…that we should pray as we ought to.

In view of this, what are some goals that we want to work towards at the family camp?

  1. Time to be with the Lord

Jesus gave the challenge that men always ought to pray. The word ought in Greek is “dei”. It means “it is necessary”. It is a necessary thing for us to pray. It is not an option. We should feel obligated to spent time with the Lord in prayer.

Often times, when we are busy with work and family commitments, there is hardly any time to spend with the Lord. The Family Camp will give us the opportunity to be with the Lord and to pray to Him. Let us make it our goal to take time to be holy.

  1. Check our faith

“Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8)

The context of the parable of the persistent widow is about the Lord’s Second Coming. The warning was given that when the Lord returns, there is a high chance that Jesus would not be able to find much faith among the people. Due to the lack of faith, many do not pray.

The challenge is given to us to check our own faith…especially in the context of prayer. When we do not take time to pray, it is probably because we still lack faith. Let us be challenged to make it our goal to check our faith.

  1. Find encouragement in the Lord

“And not lose heart.” (Luke 18:1)

The danger of losing heart is very real. As we go through the challenges of life and its many difficulties, we tend to lose heart. When we lack faith and do not understand God well enough, we end up being discouraged.

We should never lose heart. Let us come to the Family Camp with the goal to seek the Lord’s encouragement and to be strengthened in faith and life.

  1. Looking forward to being trained

Pastor also shared that he will be teaching about interactive praying from the book of Jeremiah. He said that we need to be trained to pray. I thought that it was an interesting way of learning to pray…that all of us need to be trained. Let us make it our goal to be trained to pray. Let us come to the Family Camp with these goals in mind as we pray and ask for the Lord’s blessings upon the camp.
