Celebrating our 49th Anniversary

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a “Blessed and Happy 49th Anniversary!” We thank God for all His blessings upon our church over all these years. Let us look forward to coming together as a church to worship the Lord this Sunday.

Love for the house of the Lord

As we celebrate our anniversary, let us consider our love for Bethany. The sons of Korah wrote a psalm that genuinely expressed their love for the Lord’s house. Once there was a group of the sons of Korah who rebelled against the Lord and Moses. God judged them and they perished (Numbers 16). But there arose another group of the sons of Korah who humbly served in the tabernacle. Some of them wrote of loving the house of the Lord.

1. A deep longing for the Lord and His house

“How lovely is Your tabernacle, O Lord of hosts! My soul longs, yes, even faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.” (Psalm 84:1,2)

  1. The sons of Korah who loved the Lord’s house wrote these words.
  2. They saw that everything about the Lord’s house was lovely and beautiful.
  3. They had a deep longing to be in the Lord’s house.
  4. More importantly, there was a heartfelt desire to seek their living God in His house.
  5. Let us seek to cultivate a living and loving relationship with God.

2. Seeing the blessedness of being in the Lord’s house

“Blessed are those who dwell in Your house; they will still be praising You.” (Psalm 84:4)

  1. The sons of Korah saw how blessed it was for anyone to be in the house of the Lord.
  2. Like a humble sparrow finding a home, a person of the humblest background can have the privilege of dwelling in the Lord’s house (Psalm 84:3).
  3. Like a restless swallow finding a place to lay her young, a restless person can find peace in the house of the Lord (Psalm 84:3).
  4. When we are in the Lord’s house, we can focus on God as the Lord of hosts and King.
  5. It is a great blessing to be in the Lord’s house and offer praise to Him.

3. From strength to strength

“They go from strength to strength; each one appears before God in Zion.” (Psalm Ps 84:7)

  1. Devout Jewish pilgrims would make pilgrimages to Zion three times a year.
  2. The pilgrimages would be fraught with challenges, but they would still make them.
  3. One reason was because of their love for the Lord’s house.
  4. Along the way, they discovered the blessing of finding strength in the Lord (Psalm 84:5).
  5. Each day, they found new strength till they completed their journey.
  6. Let us go from strength to strength as we seek to love the Lord and His house.

4. Choosing to be in house of the Lord

“For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.” (Psalm 84:10)

  1. The tents of wickedness may be filled with wealth and dishonest gains.
  2. But it is more blessed to be a poor and humble doorkeeper in the house of the Lord.
  3. Being in the Lord’s house, we are enriched by God’s mercy and grace.

May we choose to be in His house rather than anywhere else because of our love for His house. Let us be challenged to renew our love for the Lord and His house.
