A Tribute To All Mothers

Appreciating all mothers

This Sunday is Mother’s Day. I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to all mothers. They are a special “breed” of people we should remember and honour not just during Mother’s Day but also consistently. I admire all mothers for all they do in caring for their children. Some have a natural inclination to be mothers. Some grow to become mothers. But all are learning to fulfil their roles and responsibilities diligently.

These are some things that I would like to highlight about mothers that I have come to appreciate.

1. Strength

1. Mothers are in need of strength to care for their children and family.
2. This strength is consistently needed as they fulfil their role each day, week, month and year.
3. They can find this strength when relying on the Lord’s strength to do all things (Philippians 4:13).

2. Sacrifice

1. Mothers have to learn to make sacrifices for the sake of their children.
2. They have to give up much, in terms of time, energy, resources and more in order to raise up their children.
3. The Lord Jesus sets a wonderful example of sacrificial love for all mothers to learn from (John 15:13).

3. Service

1. Being a mother is not only a responsibility but also a ministry.
2. Mothers seek to fulfil their role by providing, protecting and caring for their children.
3. They can learn to serve humbly through the example of the Lord Jesus (Philippians 2:4–8).

4. Struggles

1. Mothers are not perfect, as they have many weaknesses too.
2. They have struggles that they have to deal with, often alone.
3. Yet, the Lord is there to help them with their struggles no matter what (Psalm 121:1,2)

5. Sleeplessness

1. Mothers are faced with many sleepless nights.
2. This is true for every new mother nursing her baby during the night season.
3. There would also be sleepless nights as mothers continue to worry about their children at different stages of their lives.
4. They can learn to watch and pray through these night seasons.

6. Steadfastness

1. Even though there will be difficult challenges, mothers seek to be steadfast.
2. They learn to fulfil their role faithfully.
3. They can learn from the Lord Jesus who displayed a love that lasted to the end (John 13:1).

Let us express our deep gratitude and appreciation for all that mothers are and do. May the Lord shower them with His grace, mercy and love in the coming year. Here’s to all mothers, wishing you a Blessed and Happy Mother’s Day!
