The building of Bethany IV

This Sunday, we will be having Bethany’s ACM. At the ACM, we will be proposing an Alteration and Addition project which will include the building of a balcony in the Sanctuary and the creation of more rooms to be used as offices. This project is called Bethany IV. It will be a challenging time during this building project as we would have to find an alternative place of worship. As such, there will be many adjustments to be made. What are some of my thoughts as we look forward to coming together to approve this new project?

Personal thoughts for the building of Bethany IV

1. Love for the Lord’s house

“Lord, I have loved the habitation of Your house, and the place where Your glory dwells.” (Psalm 26:8)

I echo the words of David. I love the habitation of the house of the Lord. Bethany is His house. It is a place when His glory dwells. It is where the beauty of the Lord is beheld. There is no better place that I would rather be than to be in the habitation of the Lord’s house. As we consider the building of Bethany IV, we will see the sanctuary being reconstructed to house about another 150 people. This means that more people would have the experience of being in the sanctuary to behold the Lord. This is a great improvement to the seating capacity of the sanctuary. There are also many other improvements to be made, like having new air conditioning and a new AVA system. My personal understanding of these improvements is that they are meant for the beauty and the glory of the Lord and of His house. This is our way of showing our love for the Lord and His house.

2. A great work of the Lord

I see the building of Bethany IV as a great work of God. God’s work should always be seen as something great, “O Lord, how great are Your works! Your thoughts are very deep.” (Psalm 92:5) As the Psalmist reflected on the works of God, he recognised how deeply significant they are. Behind His work are His power and majesty. Should we not see how great the works of God is?  In the past, we have seen three building projects in which the Lord carried out His great works. Bethany IV will be another opportunity for us to behold the hand of the Lord in doing a great work. Along with His great work are His deep thoughts for us to discover and to appreciate. There will be much for us to learn through the course of this Alteration and Addition project. Let’s look forward to beholding His great work.

3. Unity of the Spirit

At our last YAG retreat, we learnt of the importance of having the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Our focus is “Hen Soma”. We want to ensure that we stand united as the body of Christ. As we look forward to the building of Bethany IV, we hope and pray that as a church we will be “endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” (Eph 4:3) It is something that we must strive hard for. We should see ourselves being filled and led by the Spirit of God. We should all be totally aligned in seeing this project through to its end. Let’s be challenged never to allow anything to affect this unity that we have as a church. Let’s be challenged with much prayer and oneness to seek to build Bethany IV as a reflection of our love for the Lord and His house.
