An unforgettable experience

Have you ever seen someone come to faith before? Personally, I have seen a number over the years and it is always a wonderful experience.

But last Saturday, I had the privilege of watching Pastor Charles lead Jean Marc Langlais to the Lord…something that Pastor shared about at last Sunday’s Morning Worship.

It was an unforgettable experience…a delightful conversion that I never experienced before.

The truth shall make you free

As Pastor sought to present the gospel to Jean Marc in hospital, my initial thought was, “How is Jean Marc going to understand and respond to the gospel?” A disease has left him crippled and unable to talk. He was depressed and giving up on life.

As Pastor shared the gospel with Jean Marc, I saw how the truth of the Lord’s Word brought light to Jean Marc. The example of John Mark returning to the Lord connected with him. The truth of the forgiveness of sin and how we can follow the Lord brought hope to Jean Marc. It was amazing to see how the truth can make someone free. (John 8:32)

An unexpected response

The only way in which Jean Marc could communicate is through an Alternative communication device…a chart with basis signs of “Yes”, “No” and letters of the alphabet. With each question that Pastor raised to Jean Marc, he would slowly but surely answer with “Yes” and “Good”.

As I saw how difficult it was for him to communicate, my heart went out to him. There was initial skepticism on my part as to whether his answers were genuine. But as I saw him answer with greater clarity especially when Pastor reviewed his questions and his answers were still in the affirmative, we knew that Jean Marc had truly opened his heart to the Lord. It was a most unusual and unexpected response through the use of the chart …but a delightful one to witness as I never seen such a conversion before.

Joy inexpressible

After Pastor prayed with Jean Marc to receive Christ into his life, there came a special and tremendous sense of joy.

  1. There was joy on Jean Marc’s face. It was priceless.
  1. There was joy on the faces of Mrs Yap and Swee Gek, Jean Marc’s wife. It was amazing.
  1. There was joy on the faces of the pastors…a joy inexpressible.

There was such joy in beholding the Spirit of God entering into the broken life of Jean Marc and bringing about everlasting life…a delightful conversion that I will never forget. It was an encouragement to my own heart to continue reaching out to the lost…to never underestimate the power of the Spirit of God in reaching out. Let us be challenged with increasing faith and prayer reach out to our loved ones and friends knowing how the truth can set them free. Let us seek to experience the joy of seeing the lost come to faith in Christ.
