A Song of Ascents.
1Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord;
2 Lord, hear my voice!
Let Your ears be attentive
To the voice of my supplications.3 If You, Lord, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?4 But there is forgiveness with You,
That You may be feared.5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
And in His word I do hope.6 My soul waits for the Lord
More than those who watch for the morning—
Yes, more than those who watch for the morning.7 O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is mercy,
And with Him is abundant redemption.8 And He shall redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.Psalm 130:1-8
SEEKING GOD EARNESTLY
1 Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord;
2 Lord, hear my voice!
Let Your ears be attentive
To the voice of my supplications.Psalm 130:1-2
1. Recognition of being mired in iniquity
The word “depth” is of poignant significance
2. Praying to God earnestly
The word “supplications” suggests great intensity
SEEKING FORGIVENESS
3 If You, Lord, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?4 But there is forgiveness with You,
That You may be feared.Psalm 130: 3-4
1. If God were to mark iniquities
No one would be able to stand before Him
2. There is forgiveness with God
3. Being forgiven must result in the fear of the Lord 2 Corinthians 7:11
WAITING ON THE LORD
5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
And in His word I do hope.6 My soul waits for the Lord
More than those who watch for the morning—
Yes, more than those who watch for the morning.Psalm 130:5-6
1. Patience must be exercised
2. Waiting upon God requires true patience
3. It will also be expressed in Hope
4. There is humble expectation too
HOPING IN THE LORD
7 O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is mercy,
And with Him is abundant redemption.8 And He shall redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.Psalm 130:7-8
