Text: Psalm 119

MEM

97 Oh, how I love Your law!
It is my meditation all the day.

98 You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies;
For they are ever with me.

99 I have more understanding than all my teachers,
For Your testimonies are my meditation.

100 I understand more than the ancients,
Because I keep Your precepts.

101 I have restrained my feet from every evil way,
That I may keep Your word.

102 I have not departed from Your judgments,
For You Yourself have taught me.

103 How sweet are Your words to my taste,
Sweeter than honey to my mouth!

104 Through Your precepts I get understanding;
Therefore I hate every false way.

Psalm 119:97-104

1. A Declaration of Love for the Law of God

Oh, how I love Your law!
It is my meditation all the day.

Psalm 119:97

a) Love for God’s law was not always there

b) It took time to cultivate this love for God’s Law

2. The Wisdom that God’s word brings

98 You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies;
For they are ever with me.

99 I have more understanding than all my teachers,
For Your testimonies are my meditation.

100 I understand more than the ancients,
Because I keep Your precepts.

Psalm 119:98-100

a) This is not boasting

b) This is an expression of glad appreciation

i) Wiser than enemies

ii) More understanding than his teachers

iii) More understanding than the ancients

c) Thus wisdom is gained through the keeping God’s word

3. The Word of God changes Life

101 I have restrained my feet from every evil way,
That I may keep Your word.

102 I have not departed from Your judgments,
For You Yourself have taught me.

Psalm 119:101-102

a) Restraint of the feet from walking in evil ways

b) Keeping God’s word faithfully

c) No departing from God’s judgments

4. A fresh Appreciation

103 How sweet are Your words to my taste,
Sweeter than honey to my mouth!

104 Through Your precepts I get understanding;
Therefore I hate every false way

a) The Word of God is sweet indeed

b) Understanding is obtained

c) Hatred of every false way
