Walk in Him
(I) A NEW THEME FOR THE MONTH OF MAY AND JUNE
1. Theme : Walk in Him
2. Concerns our walk with the Lord
3. Not just a matter of walking with the Lord but walking in Him
(II) DIFFERENT GROUPS THAT “WALKED” WITH JESUS
1. The religious leaders… Never really walked
“Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven.” Matthew 16:1
a) They would come and follow Jesus
b) But they came with the intention to test Him and to accuse Him
c) They never had a walk with Him
2. The multitudes…A questionable walk
“From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.” John 6:66
a) They were called disciples…who followed the Lord
b) But their walk was questionable as they ended up leaving the Lord.
3. The disciples…A shaky walk
a) They did not fare much better
b) Their walk was shaky and not steadfast as they were not able to catch the spirit of Christ
i) They lacked faith during the storm (Luke 8)
ii) They had no compassion for the multitude when they were hungry (Luke 9)
(III) PAUL’S THEOLOGICAL UNDERSTANDING OF WALKING IN CHRIST
“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,” Colossians 2:6
1. This walk begins when we receive Christ into our life
2. We are to begin to walk in Him… the internal sphere of Christ
a) In His spirit
b) In His mind
c) In His heart
3. It has to do with His essence
a) His love
b) His wisdom
c) His light
d) His power
e) His relationship with the Father
(IV) CULTIVATE A DEEPER WALK IN THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST
1. A deeper understanding of Christ…of His spirit
2. Not just understanding what He did but the spirit in which He did it
3. To walk in His spirit…His essence
a) By actual walking
b) By doing things in the spirit of Christ
4. To have a deeper walk in the Lord
(V) CHECKING OUR WALK IN CHRIST
1. To understand what it means to walk in Christ deeply
2. To appreciate the different aspects of our walk in Christ in the next two months
3. Need to check whether we are walking in the sphere of the essence of Christ
