The Son of David
God had promised Israel a deliverer who would be called “ The Messiah,”
The prophets foretold His coming with the greatest sense of joy and desire.
But few truly comprehended who this Messiah might be,
Prophecy said that He would come from David’s royal tree.
With the passage of time belief in this ancient prophecy began to fade,
But there were the faithful remnant who held fast to what God had said.
One day The Son of David would come and deliver His people as promised,
He would come with power and many from sin’s power would be released.
Many could not comprehend how God would fulfil His word,
How could there be a Son of David? This sounds almost absurd!
Many doubted that this ancient prophecy would ever be fulfilled,
Such deep understanding of the prophecies would require great skill.
It is amazing that God would reveal great spiritual truth to humble fishermen,
To them was revealed that Jesus was the Son of David, the humble Son of Man.
Many became disciples and they were convinced that Jesus was indeed the King,
They became deeply committed and they were even prepared for great suffering.
