The Son of Abraham

“The Son of David, the Son of Abraham” were the opening lines,

We cannot but raise the question, “What did Matthew have in mind?”

The arrangement of the phrase is truly puzzling indeed,

What did Matthew mean when he wrote out this creed?

The sons of Abraham are as the sand by the seashore,

They are too numerous to try and keep score.

But surely this word is more than just a simple thought,

The deeper meaning is perhaps not so easily caught!

When Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to God,

He was given a special promise, his Seed would be blessed of the Lord.

This Seed would bring blessings to all the nations of the earth,

Through Him would come great and joyous heavenly mirth.

This Seed was identified by the Apostle Paul in his writings,

This thought became the central truth in apostolic teaching.

Jesus indeed was the Seed of Abraham prophesied!

We celebrate this truth at Christmas and in Jesus we abide!
