THE GLORY OF THE LORD’S SUPPER

(A Holy Communion Poem)

We have partaken of the Lord’s Supper many times;

Wherein is the Glory? Or have we been terribly blind?

The Glory lies in the very invitation from the Lord;

How blessed to be able to draw near to our God!

The Glory lies in the words that Jesus uttered;

His teachings are so deep. Have they mattered?

Imagine simple bread representing His holy Body;

To partake of the bread is surely to taste Glory.

The Glory lies in the cup that Jesus blesses;

Have we understood? We stand in His righteousness!

How wonderful to be cleansed from deepest sin;

There is Glory to be experienced deep within.

The Glory of the Lord’s Supper lies in our Communion;

Through faith in the Lord Jesus we have true union.

We are reconciled with the Lord and we are fully restored;

There is no wall between us but instead there is one accord.
