HAVE MERCY UPON ME, O GOD

The weight of sin was hard and heavy;

The Soul can become so tired and weary.

The nature of sin is often not well-understood;

Many would shrug away sin, if they could.

But the conviction of sin grips both heart and soul;

Wretchedness had almost consumed the whole.

Sin can cause sorrow beyond one’s imagination;

There is no peace, only a sense of utter desolation.

The soul feels dreadfully unclean before God;

Darkness had blocked the light of the LORD.

Iniquity, sin and transgression looms ever larger;

Could there be forgiveness amidst Divine anger?

There was only one prayer left to offer;

To beg for great Mercy is only proper!

The LORD was known for tender mercies;

The Soul weeps over sin in utter agony!
