The Practice of Thanksgiving

The concept of thanksgiving is not hard to understand,

But the practice of it is difficult and so many pretend.

We pretend we are thankful and we say the right things,

But deep down, we do not have a heart full of thanksgiving!

When we are sick and we cannot sleep at night,

Our hearts are sad and we cannot think aright.

Still the Lord calls us to offer heartfelt thanksgiving,

How do we achieve this? It is sometimes bewildering.

Is it possible to have a heart that is full of thanksgiving?

It is possible when we take time humbly remembering.

God has blessed but we have taken too much for granted,

We have not meditated! His mercy we have not appreciated!

Only when the heart is broken in shame and contrition,

And we recall how He has loved us without condition,

Perhaps then we will be able to have hearts filled with thanksgiving,

And our worship would be accepted, and God receives our offering.
