MY LORD AND MY GOD

MY LORD AND MY GOD

The disciples had cast off their despair and found joy instead,
They had seen Jesus their Master who had risen from the dead.
Excitedly they spoke to each other with joy in their heart,
Except Thomas the Twin who stood quite apart.

He was not there when Jesus appeared to them in the room,
The presence of their Teacher had cast aside all of their gloom.
They tried to convince Thomas of the truth that they had shared,
Thomas did not believe, perhaps he thought they were quite mad.

He could not believe that anyone could rise from the dead,
No matter how strongly the evidence his friends had shared.
He would not believe till he had seen the hands riven by nails,
And put his hands into His side- and other such details.

Eight days later Jesus came to see His disciples once more,
Thomas was with them, adamant and stubborn to the core.
Jesus spoke to Thomas and offered His hands to be checked,
He invited him to touch His side that his faith may not lack.

Thomas was overcome with shame and with deep sorrow,
How could he have been so arrogant and so very shallow?
“My Lord and my God” expressed his humble repentance,
He now embraced the risen Saviour with no reluctance.

Thomas had now seen Jesus and finally believed,
Blessed are those who may not see but are able to receive.
Doubts unresolved would lead to potential ruin in the end,
Strong faith enables us to see Jesus standing close at hand.
