IT IS THE LORD

IT IS THE LORD

Jesus showed Himself to His disciples time and again,
They had not been able to fully come to terms with their shame.
The disciples would gather together for fellowship,
But without Jesus there was no clear leadership.

A group of the disciples had gathered together once again,
That there was little direction among themselves was all too plain.
Peter made an announcement to all his friends,
Following Jesus as His apostle will come to an end.

“I am going fishing…” Peter said most solemnly,
He was going to quit his apostleship permanently.
The other disciples did not know what to say,
Down in their hearts they were fighting deep dismay.

Without knowing it Peter had influenced his friends,
They agreed with him and they too would pick up loose ends.
Jesus knew just why they were going back to their old profession,
They were too ashamed that they had failed in their faith-confession.

The disciples had toiled all night at their nets but they came up empty,
Jesus stood by the Sea, hailed them and asked if they had caught any.
Their glum reply reflected how they felt from deep within,
Returning to their old profession had not resolved anything.

On Jesus’ advice the disciples cast their net again, and they were surprised,
They felt the nets grow heavy; they had the biggest catch of their life.
John, the disciple whom Jesus loved, suddenly recognized the Voice,
He whispered to Peter and said, “It is the Lord! He has come to us by choice.”

Jesus had come to seek out His disciples all over again,
He wanted to assure them that He had not called them in vain.
There was a heavenly calling that they must attempt to fulfill,
They must not be afraid or be ashamed, He loves them still.
