IF MY WORDS ABIDE IN YOU

IF MY WORDS ABIDE IN YOU

Such profound words, “If… My words abide in you,”
Such painful words too, for the word “If” is all too true.
So much of life is a struggle, it is difficult to discern
How to let Your Word abide in us as our main concern.

Such deep teachings are difficult to appreciate,
All too often we fail to let His word to resonate!
You would have us take time Your teachings to remember,
But we fail because is it not in us to take time to ponder.

You would have us diligently in Your word delight,
But again we fail because we lack spiritual sight.
We fail time and again Your word to apply,
Our spirits are stubborn and we do not comply.

Patiently, You teach us how to let Your words abide,
Deeper truth to us You graciously confide.
The words of truth that we take time to learn,
They will keep us and falsehood to discern.

The words of Jesus are a gift most exquisite and rare,
We must be moved and into God’s Presence to repair.
There before the glorious throne of tender love and grace,
Let us plead to know afresh why we need to seek His face.

Only we can turn the “If” into “then,”
But our hearts must first truly comprehend.
The words of Jesus lovingly, in our hearts, we must hide,
Only then would the words of Christ, in our souls, abide.
