I SPOKE OPENLY TO THE WORLD
Jesus was brought to stand trial in the middle of the night,
This was totally illegal; this was not right.
Jesus knew from the outlook of things,
The hours ahead would be awfully grim.
The high priest, Ananias, asked about the doctrines He had taught,
He also inquired about the disciples, His teachings they had caught.
“I spoke openly to the world,” Jesus boldly declared,
“In the temple and in synagogues,”- He had never been scared.
The officers who heard this reply felt the high priest was disgraced,
He swiftly raised his hand and angrily struck Jesus full in the face.
Jesus recovered and spoke quietly, even though He was in pain,
He knew that there would no regard- hatred and vengeance was so plain.
They were not interested in His teachings that had blessed many hearts,
They were set on destroying Him, and tearing Him apart.
The appearance before the Sanhedrin Council was just a mockery,
Jesus would still humbly submit Himself to the Jewish judiciary.
