A ROOSTER CROWED

A ROOSTER CROWED

The death of Jesus was a fact that He sought to make known,
The disciples must know that He would die, and they would be alone.
He warned them that they would be tried and they would from Him flee,
Peter declared boldly that all may flee, but it would not be he!

Jesus looked at Peter with great love in his heart,
He knew what would happen, Peter would fall apart.
He warned Peter that he would deny Him thrice,
Peter objected, for these words were not nice.

Jesus was taken late at night, and all the disciples fled,
Peter took up a sword and fought, but deep down there was dread.
He could do nothing as he watched the soldiers take Jesus away,
His heart was filled with sadness and deepest dismay.

He followed Jesus from afar, for his heart was filled with fear,
What if he was spotted and the soldiers were called to draw near?
A servant girl asked Peter if he had been a disciple of Jesus too,
The first words of denial from his lips just flew.

His heart was stung, obviously his heart and mind were not sound,
He determined that he would do better the next time round.
As Peter warmed himself with others at the courtyard fire,
He denied Jesus again, with a very strong sense of ire.

His heart sank further, could what Jesus said be true and right?
Soon another said that he saw Peter in the garden with Jesus that night.
Peter was flustered and with great anger he spoke,
He denied Jesus the third time; immediately a rooster crowed.

Peter wept and fled far away from the evil crowd,
He could not stand himself, he needed to cry out loud.
He had failed His Master, his heart was feeling bad,
Nothing anyone could say would ever make his heart glad!
