IF THE WORLD HATES YOU

IF THE WORLD HATES YOU

The world we live seems the only environment we know,
It was in the world we live; and in it we began to grow.
Soon we were caught up with the world’s attractions,
Nothing seemed more important than to have its affections.

But then we learn that the world had an ugly side,
It rejects those who in Jesus Christ abides.
It turns hostile and bitter, the change is confusing,
The soul cringes and wonders how it should be responding.

“If the world hates you…, ” The words of Jesus are recalled,
The heart remembers the words of warning given to them all.
The world will hate… the heart suddenly comprehends,
The soul must find new strength the world to contend.

“It first hated Me…,” Jesus patiently explained;
Why then should the heart fear and be in pain?
The world has hated and will continue to hate,
Our hearts must choose love to reciprocate.

Sometimes the pain inflicted is bitter and deep,
We must entrust our feelings for the Saviour to keep.
Then will we be able in Christ Jesus to abide,
No matter how hard the world tries, from Christ, to divide.

The heart learns to practise abiding in Christ,
In a world that seeks to always with evil entice.
Then comes a special sense of joy in anticipation,
We will be united with Christ in identification.
