I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE

I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE

The topic of death is often avoided because it seems to bring fear,
Death seems to be a fearsome problem that robs people of cheer.
Lazarus lay seriously ill and He knew that his sisters would grieve,
But his suffering and death would test just how deeply they believed.

Jesus met the two sisters and both suffered great sorrow,
They bitterly regretted that Jesus had been so slow.
If He had been there, His power would have prevailed,
But now it was too late, His presence was of no avail.

“I am the resurrection and the Life…” Jesus firmly cried,
Had they understood what this word implied?
Death was not to be feared, it was nothing more than sleep,
If one had faith to believe, that God our soul would keep.

“He who believes in Me, though he may die,” Jesus explained,
Death is part of life on earth, and yes, it will bring some pain.
There is an even greater life beyond this time on earth,
Eternal life is promised to all who have the second birth.

Jesus had to give the multitudes a special demonstration,
To show what He meant when He spoke of resurrection.
“Lazarus, come forth!” Jesus cried with a voice of power,
Lazarus came out of the tomb that very hour.

No one had seen anything like this before,
All had to re-examine their faith a little more.
Was faith in Jesus nothing more than theology?
Was their faith able to match life’s grim reality?

A greater faith in Jesus must be sought,
For one day the battle with death will be fought.
May a strong faith in Jesus be our strength and power!
When death finally comes, we would not falter in that hour.
