GREATER WORKS

GREATER WORKS

The works of Jesus were a marvel to all,
The power of God was shown to the great and the small.
Some were led to find new hope through belief,
All who were healed and through faith found relief.

The disciples stood amazed as they gazed at their great Teacher,
How wonderful it would be if they could rise in their stature.
They listened hard and sought to learn well,
For one day soon it would be their turn, the Gospel, to tell.

Jesus knew what was in the heart without their telling,
They yearned to walk worthy of their calling.
But they still had such a long way to go,
There was little time left for them to grow.

He must tell them of the Father’s plan,
This would surprise their heart no end.
The plan was for them to do “greater works…”
There was silence when He spoke those words.

How could they possibly achieve greater feats?
How could they even attempt what Jesus did?
Was the Lord mistaken in His inspiration?
How would they fulfill this aspiration?

The heart was driven to consider what Jesus meant,
Surely He would explain God’s intent.
The call is not to perform miracles every day,
The challenge is to lead people to God today.

The “greater works” is reaching the multitudes,
And to share with them The Beatitudes.
Through what we have experienced of God in life,
Many may be led to salvation from sinful strife.

The heart is heartened when it fully learns,
The Holy Spirit will be with us at every turn.
He will empower so that greater works would be done,
And many, many souls to Christ Jesus would be won.
