ABIDE IN ME

ABIDE IN ME

The challenge to be fruitful was Jesus’ aim,
To bear much fruit will glorify His Father’s name.
But few seem to be able to bear much fruit,
Perhaps it is necessary to examine our roots.

Jesus spoke clearly of Himself as the True Vine,
He described the Father in His task Divine.
He would be the Vine Dresser Supreme,
He would do what is necessary to make us clean.

He went on to say, “Abide in Me”
Few words could have such profundity.
Simple words but of great significance;
We must take time to understand their importance.

Our hearts are unable to naturally abide,
We have hearts that are inclined to human pride.
We choose our own ways and ourselves deceive,
We do ourselves harm when worldly ideas we conceive.

To abide in Christ is simply in Him to remain,
Our hearts and minds on Jesus we must train.
As branches of the Vine we must draw our strength from Him,
We cannot allow our understanding to grow dim.

It is through meditation that we begin to understand,
And it is through prayer that we better comprehend.
Our hearts must be challenged in Christ to abide,
We must appreciate just how the Lord would provide.

To be fruitful for the Lord is the disciple’s dream,
Many precious lessons of faith we must glean.
May we yield our hearts and minds for the Father to address,
May He work through the Spirit our souls to impress.
