A GRAIN OF WHEAT

A GRAIN OF WHEAT

Jesus often spoke of “the hour” but His disciples did not fully understand,
He knew that He had to carefully teach, or they would never comprehend.
It was a reference to the hour of His death, but that thought only brought much pain,
How could death, the death of their beloved Master, bring any visible gain?

Jesus had to prepare their hearts for the day when He would die,
Perhaps He took a grain of wheat and on the ground He made it lie.
The grain of wheat that falls into the ground and dies,
In God’s plan it will produce much grain, it will multiply.

The grain of wheat that does not die, it will remain alone,
It will remain unfruitful, no matter how well it had grown.
Another step of faith, with courage, must be taken,
Only then would one’s life fulfil the will of Heaven.

Few have taken this great step that involves total sacrifice,
Jesus would show them; He would act on His own advice.
He was not afraid to be that grain of wheat,
Many souls would be blessed through this sacrificial feat.
