FATHER, FORGIVE THEM

It is easy to pray for grace for all of life’s needs,

And when we find grace, we are thankful indeed.

Is it easy to pray for people who have done us wrong?

Could the heart bear no ill will and still have a song?

“Father, forgive them, they do not know what they do,” Jesus said!

How could anyone even think such noble thoughts in the head?

Jesus had been betrayed, beaten badly and finally crucified;

How could He have uttered such tender words before He died?

It would take a truly great heart of love to pray in this manner,

Jesus was the unique Son of Man, He was not like any other!

He served without asking for rewards or even appreciation;

He healed many, cast out demons, never seeking compensation!

He asked God to forgive sinful mankind, though gripped by pain,

He did not dwell on His own suffering at all– and that was plain!

The heart is drawn to Jesus for the Love that He had clearly shown,

The soul is deeply stirred to make Jesus the Saviour our very own!
