FATHER, FORGIVE THEM

Only a True Son could cry out the word “Father” amidst such pain;

Only a Beloved Son, could pray using such an intimate “name!”

Jesus had trusted His Father’s Plan to bring forth Man’s salvation.

His Hand of Love was trusted even in the greatest humiliation!

More tender words could not be found than uttered here;

“Father, forgive them” – Those words must bring tears!

How could anyone forgive? But Jesus was not just “anyone!”

He had come from Heaven, He was the only begotten Son!

Could He ask for forgiveness for those who wanted Him dead?

Was He willing to die for the sins of the wicked in their stead?

There were no feelings of anger or hatred felt deep within;

His heart was truly pure for He had not been marred by sin.

Forgiveness is what Jesus sought for all who have sinned;

The Father hears and lovingly offers cleansing deep within.

The words of Jesus remain potent and moving even today;

No one needs to feel unforgivable and be in deep dismay!
