A GRAIN OF WHEAT

The Call to follow Jesus had been to given to all

But only a few were able to respond to His Call.

Many held back because they were fearful;

Would there be suffering? Would Life be awful?

Jesus likened Life to a common grain of wheat;

If it stands alone, into God’s plan, it would not fit.

Many did not know the joy of yielding one’s all;

What blessings there are when they heed God’s Call.

And if the grain of wheat is put into the ground;

It dies and for a little while, there is no sight or sound.

But soon, the little grain begins to grow and sprout;

It breaks through the sod with a triumphant shout.

This understanding of Life was what Jesus taught;

He practised it Himself; Salvation would be blood-bought.

He too had to be that Grain that falls into the ground;

He would bring blessings that would greatly abound!
