Tempted By The Devil

Many fear the Devil because he is known to be evil,
Few would dare to be fully tested as Jesus will.
Jesus must defeat Satan as the Son of Man,
This was all part of God’s profound divine plan.
For too long Satan has been feared and thus many are enslaved,
The power of fear must be broken; Jesus had come to save.
He must face the devil and defeat him soundly as the Son of Man,
Then can He proceed to fulfil God’s wonderful salvation plan.
The Devil tried to tempt Jesus to abuse His right as the Son of God,
Why would not Jesus consider making bread from a simple rock?
Jesus rejected this temptation for man does not live by bread alone,
Man can live nobly and live uprightly, God’s word is well-known.
The Devil tried again, seeking to deceive by quoting the Word of God,
Why would Jesus not jump from the pinnacle of the Temple of the Lord?
The angels of God would surely be aroused to protect Him lest He falls,
Surely the mighty angels were there to attend to His every beck and call?
This was rejected too because Jesus knew better than to test the Lord,
No one was to ever put himself in harm’s way, if he truly knew God.
The Son of Man had defeated the Devil soundly once again,
He knew the Scriptures well, His soul was free from sinful taint.
The Devil tried to tempt Jesus with all the power and glory of the world,
Jesus could have all the power, and all the silver and the gold.
All the Devil wanted was for Jesus to bow the knee and acknowledge him as God,
Jesus dismissed the Devil; there is only One to be worshipped and His name is the LORD!
