G. A GREAT TEST OF FAITH AND LOVE FOR GOD

1. David offers to build a House for the Lord            1 Chronicles 17:1

2. He had developed a great heart of love for God            1 Chronicles 28:2

3. Nathan is impressed and gives his consent            1 Chronicles 17:2

4. God rejects David’s offer            1 Chronicles 17:1-15

a) Because David had shed much blood            1 Chronicles 17:8; 28:3
b) God had selected Solomon to build the temple            1 Chronicles 17:11-12

H. HOW DAVID COULD HAVE RESPONDED

1. He could have responded negatively

a) He could have walked away
b) He could have been offended
c) He could have done nothing at all

2. But he responded most positively

a) He made great personal preparation to build the House of God            1 Chronicles 22:3-5

i) Made abundant preparation            1 Chronicles 22:5
ii) Taken much trouble            1 Chronicles 22:14
iii) Prepared with all my might            1 Chronicles 29:2
iv) Set affection on the house of God            1 Chronicles 29:3

b) He studied the plans given by the Spirit of God            1 Chronicles 28:11

i) The Lord gave him understanding            1 Chronicles 28:19
ii) God’s hand was there personally to instruct David            1 Chronicles 28:19

c) He exhorted Solomon            1 Chronicles 28:9-10

i) To know the God of your father            1 Chronicles 28:9
ii) To seek the Lord            1 Chronicles 28:9
iii) To serve God with a loyal heart            1 Chronicles 28:9a
