THINGS CLEAN AND UNCLEAN

1. I know and am convinced by the Lord Jesus (Romans 14:14a)

a) There is nothing unclean of itself (Romans 14:14b)
b) Teaching of clean/ unclean (Matthew 15:1-20)
c) Understanding drawn from the teaching of Jesus

2. The problem: The individual and his personal scruples

To him who considers anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean (Romans 14:14c)

3. The challenge: To walk in love (Romans 14:15b)

a) Your brother is grieved because of your food (Romans 14:15a)
b) You are no longer walking in love (Romans 14:15b)
c) Do not destroy with your food the one for whom Christ died (Romans 14:15c)
d) Do not let your good be spoken of as evil (Romans 14:16)

4. The kingdom of God

a) It is not eating or drinking (Romans 14:17a)
b) But righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17b)

5. Serving the Lord

a) He who serves Christ in these things (Romans 14:18a)
b) Is acceptable to God (Romans 14:18b)
c) And approved by men (Romans 14:18c)

6. Things to pursue

a) Peace
Pursue the things that make peace (Romans 14:19a)
b) Edification
The things by which one may edify another (Romans 14:19b)

7. Danger

a) Destroying the work of God for the sake of food (Romans 14:20)
b) Stumbling a brother who is weak (Romans 14:21)
c) Do not end up self-condemned (Romans 14:22-23)

8. Faith to be treasured but it must not cause others to fall (Romans 14:22)
